Benthota is the best beach for a romantic honeymoon or holiday. The most ideal place for (sun & sand) water sports. Its located about 62 km south of Colombo.
With all the historical events taking place in Colombo, it was largely developed as a city following independence. However, the contributions made by the Portuguese, Dutch and British played a major role to what Colombo is today. The influences made by these nations are evident today in the food, clothes, lifestyle and even names used in this city. Even though today this wonderful city is much more modern and chic, it still resembles the glorious past. The city’s buildings, parks and monuments are living proof for that amazing history.
Dehiwala Zoological Garden is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Asia. It has a substantial collection of worldwide animals. Gangaramaya Temple is one of the most important temples in Colombo. The temple's architecture demonstrates an eclectic mix of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese architecture. The Viharamahadevi Park (formerly Victoria Park) is an urban park located next to the National Museum of Colombo and the Town Hall. It is the oldest and largest park in Colombo and features a large Buddha statue. As part of the Urban Regeneration Program of the Government of Sri Lanka, many old sites and buildings were revamped to modern public recreational spaces and shopping precincts. These include Independence Memorial Hall Square, Pettah Floating Market and Old Dutch Hospital among others.
