Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, located on the west coast of the island and at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, in Western Province, Sri Lanka. Negombois the fifth largest city in the country and it is the second largest City in Western province after Colombo. Negombo is also the administrative capital of the Negombo Division. It is one of the major commercial hubs in Sri Lanka of about 128,000 inhabitants in the city limits, approximately 37 km north of Colombo city. Negombois known for its huge and old fishing industry with busy fish markets, and the nice sandy beaches with modern hotels, guest houses, fine restaurants, pubs and the night life.

Polonnaruw,a which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka, built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and which is a world heritage site. Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in 'Upright', 'Sedentary' and 'Recumbent' postures carved out of rock could be seen, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, the statue of king Parakramabahu, and the ParakramaSamudraya - a lake built by King Parakramabahu the great. There are also monuments of famous places of worship such as the Shiva Temple, the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the KiriVehera and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic.


A remarkable archaeological site made unforgettable by its dramatic setting - the 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200m from the scrub jungle situated in the Central District. This ancient rock fortress and palace ruins famed for its frescoes, was built during the reign of King Kasyapa (AD477 -495). It was developed into a complex city and fortress. Considered one of the most elaborate and imaginative planning sites of the first millennium, the plan combined concepts of symmetry and asymmetry to intentionally interlock the man-made geometrical and natural forms of the surroundings.

Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's sacred ancient city, surrounded by 3 great man-made lakes, is located in Sri Lanka's Northwest 'dry zone which is arid, rolling, open country. At the height of its glory, Anuradhapura ranked beside Nineveh and Babylon in its colossal proportions. The monumental dagobas, JetavanaDagoba, AbayagiryStupa and the Ruwwanveli Seya are amongst the greatest architectural feats of its age, and have been surpassed only in scale by the great pyramids of Khufru&Khafra at Gizah.

Buddhism was to become a cornerstone of the Aryan Sinhalese civilization. The sacred Sri Maha Bodhi Tree is a sampling of the sacred Bo tree in India, in the shelter of which Prince Siddhartha Gauthama attained supreme enlightenment & became Buddha. It was gifted to Sri Lanka by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century BC and is the oldest recorded tree in the world (2,250 years).

The city has many museums that bear testimony to Sri Lanka's ancient and dynamic civilization, which include the Anuradhapura Archaeological Museum, the Abhayagiri Museum and the Jetavanarama Museum and many other places of interest.

Dambulla, home to one of Sri Lanka’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, features the Island’s largest and best preserved richly painted Cave Temple Complex. Though there are more than 80 documented caves in the area, the most significant are spread over 5 caves, which comprise of statues and paintings related to Lord Buddha and his life.

Evening Visit to DaladaMaligawa, Kandy & Cultural Dancing.

Kandy, locally referred to as MahaNuwara(meaning The Great City), is the Hill Capital and one of the most scenic cities in the country. It is also home to one of the most revered places of Buddhist worship in Sri Lanka. The sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, is housed in the temple, known as the Dalada Maligawa.

In one of Asia’s most celebrated festivals, the Esala Perahera, the inner caskets housing the sacred tooth relic, is taken through the streets in a grand procession of dancers, drummers, torch bearers and over a hundred beautifully costumed elephants. Steeped in history and located at the foothills of the central highlands, the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is one of Sri Lanka's most popular attractions. Situated halfway between Colombo and Kandy, the orphanage has a population of about 75 elephants, making it the world's largest collection of captive elephants. The elephants here range from newborn calves to elderly matriarchs and include orphaned and abandoned elephants, as well as those injured in the wild. Experience the sheer delight of watching these great pachyderms frolic in the river at bath time or the baby elephants being fed twice a day.

Galle is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo. Galle is the administrative capital of Southern Province, Sri Lanka and the district capital of Galle District. It's the fourth largest City in the country after the capital Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna. Galle was known as Gimhathiththa before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the main port on the island. Galle reached the height of its development in the 18th century, during the Dutch colonial period. The major river is Gin River (Gin Ganga) which starts from Gongala Kanda and passing villages such as Neluwa, Nagoda, Baddegama, Thelikada, and Wakwella, reaches the sea at Ginthota. In Wakwella over the river there is Wakwella Bridge, which is the longest bridge in Sri Lanka.

Bentota is a tourist attraction, with a local airport and a handful of world-class hotels. It is a destination for water sports. It is the hosting land for the famous Sri Lankan Jeweler Aida. Bentota also delivers an ancient art of healing called Ayurveda. Bentota is famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage made out of coconut nectar.

Colombo Bursting with life and colour, the islands largest city which was once the Capital of Sri Lanka, is now its Commercial hub.

Today, it is a mix of modern architecture among colonial buildings. The remnants of Dutch and Portuguese domination, is seen primarily in the Fort, located north of the city. In stark contrast, are modern buildings such as The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and five start hotels in the same location. Pettah, where daily life overflows on to the streets, not too far from the Fort is a Traders hub and home to a few unique examples of architecture in its churches and kovils. With its network of streets each specializing in one thing or another, where anything and everything, from garments to toys to electronics and sweet-meats could be found, it provides an interesting insight in to life as it is in a busy, tropical cosmopolitan city.
